So the Yougov poll showed that people are ok with trans people "self-iding" their gender. But the process for trans people to legally become their gender shouldn't be made easier.

Which means that as ever, people dont have a clue what Self-ID means and thats inherently the problem.

The biggest takeaway from this i have is that UK and US trans people have to take note that the UK is not the same as the US in terms of its sentiment to trans people and trying to push for the exact same positions continues to walk back trans rights in the UK along lines that are not favourable to us.

@mxsiege "lived in their new gender" is a hell of a term, gotta say I'm not a fan

Yougov trans rights uk

@lanesweets pretty standard for the UK, i think thats the same wording in the requirements listings to get the gender recognition certificate

transphobie

tiens, dans l'étude de mon last boost, c'est les hommes & non les femmes qui sont inquiète des risques de laisser les femmes trans' utiliser les espaces réservées aux femmes. Je suis pas vraiment surprise mais c'est intéressant

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege some of these numbers are depressing as hell, especially the one with trans women in sports being a resounding no across the board

Yougov trans rights uk

@amandag @mxsiege I think most of the reason for that is the fact that the media has been attacking us so much here. Even left wing papers run anti-trans opinion peaces here.

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege interesting how the men here disagree with that trans people are their desired gender while women are OK with it...

Yougov trans rights uk

@ella @mxsiege Yeah, I was going to note the same. Whew

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege these numbers feel "off". id like to see the results of the official consultation that was run

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege hmm that's much more positive, is this more biased amd unfair reporting from pink news? I did notice their sample size was quite small

Yougov trans rights uk

@SEGFAULT only the top line of the survey is from pink news's own survey, the rest is just from yougov's public survey

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege

maybe pessimistic but i read that as:
“We collectively support trans people calling themselves whatever they want, but not, you know, having any _actual_ self-determinism or doing anything that might impact us personally, like showing up in our bathroom or on our sports team”

Yougov trans rights uk

@june yep thats exactly what it is.

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege @june I know this is a bit depressing to say this but its actually not as bad as I thought it was going to be 😔

Yougov trans rights uk

@kawaiipunk @june its about where i expected things to be outside of all the bizarre "75% of the UK support trans rights" stuff which really always comes down to people feeling ok with trans people as long as they dont appear in their lives.

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege @june Yeh I think thats it.

The sport thing is interesting. I wonder how much of it is down to Joe Rogan et al.

Yougov trans rights uk

@kawaiipunk @june In the UK not much id say, its never been a positive position here.

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege eyeing up those remain and lib dem voters saying legal transition shouldn't be made any easier and remembering how much I despise lib dems and smug centrist shitlibs generally

Yougov trans rights uk

@curio idk, even labour voters say it shouldnt be made easier in any actual practical way. Like i dont know how they think it should be made easier if they want to keep medical requirements and 2 years evidence of lived experience

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege yeah I'm with you, I kinda despair at the lack of understanding and education here in general, even with labour.

I've just specifically had a few convos with gross smug lib dems who insist that they're like, the party of LGBT people and real progressivism and it grinds my gears

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege like with how Starmer has behaved I feel like UK trans people are pretty politically homeless now, but the lib dems specifically have such a history of making a big show of their allyship while not offering policies that would actually help anything, and it doesn't surprise me to see that their voters don't actually care either

Yougov trans rights uk

@curio i felt pretty politically homeless before Starmer tbh, there was a lot of queer people pushing for Corbyn but also a lot of leftists who dismiss trans as upper middle class fancy and that sentiment has only grown since. I have no trust in any political party to champion trans rights but the best i can do is recognise that the Tories are most likely to walk it back.

Yougov trans rights uk

@mxsiege mmm, I think that's fair. I've had a lot of tangles on birdsite recently with Transphobic Marxists and it's really opened my eyes
