Theres some pretty large hearsay going around in transfem HRT circles. One endocrinologist said that they didn't want to give progesterone to a trans patient because its only present in cis women in the finalizing stage of breast development from tanner IV to V. This got inferred by the patient as to mean "progesterone finalizes breast development and therefore is bad to take earlier." Even though countless transfem people can confirm breasts continue to grow after progesterone.
There is =zero= evidence to show progesterone prevents or stops breast growth. The endocrinologist was just doing what so many other doctors do which is deny hormones using basic cis puberty ideas. Just because it helps breasts grow and develop into tanner stage V doesn't mean it would prevent growth if taken sooner.
I have been taking progesterone since month 2 of my transition and my breasts are still growing.
A cis female friend of mine went from A to F cup in her 30s.
@mxsiege a) it’s not uncommon for cis women to experience an increase in bust & hip size in their late 20s & early 30s! It’s just one of those things no one tells you so you can feel bad about not fitting into your high school clothes b) ever trans woman I know who added progesterone experienced increased breast growth; anecdata blah blah, but this is the worst advice that girl got & seems to be the opposite of what actually happens
@mxsiege YEP! There was a deep dive on it in the NYT recently, about how this is an industry wide thing, with most infertility doctors refusing to treat people over a certain BMI and reccomending weight loss surgery to increase your fertility
