@starbreaker Sphinx has been around for a long time, originally for Python docs but now for much more, eg. https://readthedocs.org/
Besides markdown, it supports the more powerful reStructuredText format and can produce HTML, PDF, ePub, and Latex so I use it for more than just websites.
