Hello to all newcomers! I see everyone is doing #introductions again — mind if I join?

I am a 28-year old cishet guy living in #Milan, #Italy. I graduated in #math and ended up doing #programming for a living. I discovered Mastodon though #metafilter almost a year ago.

I had to go to the ER tonight (don’t worry, I feel fine and have just been dismissed), and I learned that the best treatment a patient can get is a smiling doctor who can use the best words and, in the appropriate circumstances, the proper type of humour to help the patients feel less anxious. I have been lucky tonight.

Yesterday I received my very first notification from #Signal. It was a secure session reset from a Portuguese phone number.

I don’t like it when user interfaces (in either apps or websites) do not allow me to change their language and force me to use Italian:
1) Translations are terrible and unusable most of the times, so I have better chances to understand the meaning if I switch to the original language.
2) If I need to look up the documentation for a specific functionality, or even just to google it, I’d prefer to have the name in English rather than the translation.

Even after getting his seat in the cabinet, Salvini is still pushing forward his xenophobic rhetoric on social media – it doesn't matter to him (nor to Italians) that there are 629 migrants' lives at stake, and that his decision to close the ports to the ships helping shipwrecked people is a violation of human rights.

Today, for the first time in my life, I openly confessed and discussed my mental issues with a friend of mine. I felt much better afterwards, regardless of his reaction, and I appreciated that he listened, tried to relate, and asked me to follow up when I get professional help.

He might not have been the *best* person to talk about mental health with, but he was there at the right time.
