#Unicode11 was released today! Here's one of the characters, which probably won't display properly unless you have a *very* up-to-date font (but see the image below!).

I've wondered why does an otherwise unremarkable movie have the most realistic depiction of an algebraic #proof. Seriously, it's so realistic that I've referred to it a couple of times to remind myself how this proof goes. Why does this dinky little movie have the most realistic fictional mathematician ever?

libraries are such an important space

not only for free information, but especially for at risk populations and homeless populations

they offer free or very cheap internet access (which allows for finding resoucres, job applications, etc), free access to information, bathrooms, often places have refreshments for relatively cheap as well, etc. etc.

wanting to make public libraries obsolete is classist and just an incorrect viewpoint tbh

yesterday apparently the hashtag DropTheT trended on twitter...

no doubt largely due to the efforts of bots, but for a reason. they knew they could use trending topics to send a transphobic message, to recruit people for transphobic purposes and remind trans people not to feel comfortable about being in the LGBT community and to be quiet and not ask for too much.

this is why people call it a tool of mass harassment and social chilling. we don't get upset over nothing.

We all have our passions, biases, beliefs, etc and that's a good thing. It's a fundamental part of life to reflect on your place in it.

But remember, everyone is going through something. Be clear, be firm and be kind where you can. And always always always leave space to consider the things you do not know.

People were upset because they still don't have anyone to talk to that isn't you when they are upset.

People were upset because they felt disenfranchised, again.

People were upset because there's no clear road map, again.

People were upset because there's a lack of proactive communication, again.

People were upset because you made light of harassment, again.

People were upset because you and others told them to #ForkOff if they didn't like it.

I do think that Gargron has a point. But that point is missing the point of what happened yesterday.

People were upset that you were dismissive of their concerns again.

People were upset because they felt disenfranchised, again.

People were upset because you still don't seem to take governance, community management or project management seriously, again.

People were upset because it's a recurring pattern with you.

The thing is the conversation isn't that hard to understand.

If you're a white guy, you're not a target of the most vile shit people do online. That's just a fact.

If you want to understand how pervasive and ugly abuse and harassment is, you have to listen to vulnerable communities who have to deal with it all time.

Excluding them from the conversation because you don't want to 'believe it' is a big reason why various social platforms keep repeating the same dumb ass mistakes.

The details of what caused #forkoff don't really matter. Whose right and wrong in the inciting argument doesn't matter either.

Here's what matters:

the non-coders who were actively contributing to Mastodon feel/are being driven off Mastodon.

This will result in only coders being involved in masto dev. Which inevitably, WILL lead to a downward spiral as communication between coding-devs and non-coding users falls through the widening cracks.

Since it's crystal clear now that Gargle doesn't actually care about any of us, what are some alternatives?

I'm queer, disabled, pagan, and socialist. I'd like to be able to leave fb too.
