Yesterday I had a stroll in a park here in #Milan and noticed a strange mound. It turned out to be artificial, with a 19th-century underground temple below it. Unfortunately it‘s not accessible and the only way to peek into it is from an oculus at the top, which is sealed off with a grating. I could not see the interior because the oculus was in the shade. I will bring a flashlight next time.

I love this kind of urban discoveries. Cities are truly full of hidden places.

I went there earlier today and had a flashlight with me. It was not powerful enough to have a perfect look, but I found what I expected to see: lots of trash 😞 because the oculus is open 24/7 and the park is publicly accessible.

It is not possible to enter the temple itself, so no one has the incentive to keep it clean, but it would be nice to cover the grating with a glass disk and clean the inside before it gets worse.

@steko It's a little 19th-century temple embedded in a little mound in what used to be the garden of a private villa in Milan, and now it's in a public park. The temple has an oculus at the top, which is covered by a grating. I think there used to be a door, which is now sealed. You can see the photos in the toot I replied to with my update
