I have been following tonight's big discussion.

I am a privileged person and my experience on Mastodon has been positive so far, and it even boosted my morale in the last weeks… until I learned about such cases of harassment, which left me speechless and sad (I would be angry if I weren't tired). I can only say platitudes for now.

One thing we should repeat: Abusive people are not welcome, and it's up to us to show them the door.

Now I really need some sleep. Goodnight.

@miramarco Maybe I spend time in tge right places, but has anyone actually cited an example of harassment? I've seen people talking about it. I've seen no one offer an actual example.

@Frankenbeans Well, the case that sparked yesterday's discussion is this:

The link leads to the victim's screenshots of the conversation, so I guess it's okay for me to post it.

It's not the first time I read about people talking about being harassed in here, but it's the first time I see it in public posts. And it's a pretty big case because one of the people involved is an instance admin.

@miramarco Yeah, I saw that. The comment about depression being sexy was definitely inappropriate. On the other hand, one of my first Mastodon experiences was watching Ginny melt down about the number of men she blocked for harassment. She posted links. In most cases it was someone disagreeing with her or asking her for evidence for harassment.
