train travel (I hope I am not setting the expectations too high)

I just found out that ÖBB, the Austrian railway company, is planning to use new Nightjet trains from Summer 2023, which include a set of couchette wagons with capsule-hotel-style suites. The first Nightjets of this kind will connect Austria, Germany, and Italy.

As someone who has been avoiding sleeper trains because of their limited privacy and safety, this sounds very interesting. Maybe a bit uncomfortable, and probably not accessible to some, but hopefully enough to make other people like myself change idea about travelling by night.

@miramarco I've been on a night train before but that was with family so pretty okay as for privacy and safety (or at least not having to sleep in a room with total strangers).

Looking at this I think I'd feel kinda claustrophobic (which I almost never do) if I had to sleep in such a small closed cabinet. Though for privacy it looks pretty good.

@human_dude Yeah, it does look a bit claustrophobic, it's certainly not for everyone.

From what I gathered from another rendering, there is room with windows behind the ladder, which may give the impression of a slightly bigger capsule.

But again, these are renderings, and may differ a lot from the final result.

Also, there will be sleeper compartments that resemble the more traditional sleeping wagons, which can be useful for groups of four.

@miramarco oh cool !
Windows would probably make it feel a lot less like a luxurious coffin. (Okay that sounds kinda cynical, but I mean it sincerely and love that sleeper trains are getting better because train travel is awesome)

@miramarco more night trains would be awesome and I bet that kind would find some eager people who would love to use it. Currently the issue is that almost all night trains are fully booked way in advance
