I see a lot of French on the local timeline, no idea if that's France or Québec or elsewhere, but if you can vote in France... for the love of everything good, vote for Macron. Don't make our mistake, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the acceptable, don't let Le Pen win. Trump and his fascists are fucking us over. Don't let them do the same to you.

Would you still choose the acceptable? Which one would it be? At what point do we stop voting for someone awful?

Macron was in a government that used 49-3 to make his antisocial bill pass. He's not really a democracy parangon.

France had the exact same choice in 2002 and we can see what good it did to us to vote *against* another candidate instead of *for* someone we support.

@eliotberriot That is not the choice. Even if their domestic policies were entirely the same (I'm not qualified to judge if they are or not) you have a choice between a candidate that will maintain the system that has kept Europe largely war-free for 70 years, and one that would burn that down to keep out the "wrong" people.

However bad you think it could be, it can be worse. We're finding that out the hard way. Please don't do the same.

I think people like Macron are actually breaking so many things that were working before people see no other choices than turning to pseudo "anti-system" candidates such as Le Pen.

I cannot decently vote for someone that will actually make Le Pen's job easier in five year.

I can agree whith you by saying Le Pen (and Trump) are a real problem. But it seems we can't agree on the solution to this problem.

I appreciate the fact everyone feels so concerned about french politics right now. In itself, it's a good thing.

But please, don't use guilt to influence other people decision. Stop pointing your finger at us, absentionnists, saying we are making Le Pen win. That's simply not true.

I get your point, and even if I disagree with you, I'm trying to talk to your brain, not your guilt, your fear or whatever emotion I can use to manipulate you.

@eliotberriot I wish I had the distance to talk strictly at a brains and policy level here, but the current administration has declared that I can be denied healthcare or government services if an individual decides that God doesn't like me, so yeah, this is a bit emotional for me. "Trump and Clinton are the same, so why bother" got tossed around a lot last year, and is so far from true it's insulting that anyone believed it.

@eliotberriot When I and everyone I love are under attack, it's hard to hold blameless the people who could have stopped it and didn't. I don't necessarily *like* laying on the guilt here, but I don't have the privilege of playing nice.

Even if they are the same on all the issues that affect you, you're telling everyone they do affect that they're not your problem.

@eliotberriot I realize that there may be things going on that I'm not aware of from six thousand miles away, so I'll note that we disagree, and go to bed. But I'll also hope that the European Union survives the next decade.
