I wanna make a roguelike but I hate making games that center around violence. So, I'm just always thinking about what a (good) pacifist RL looks like. My current thought is: pretty boardgamey

@mcccclean What about a disaster response RL? Procedurally generated disaster areas where you have to navigate one of several kinds of disaster and try to save lives. Generate experience by performing first aid and emergency resuscitation, get new gear, try to find a way to carve out a safe space inside the DANGER ZONE.

@Mainebot I've had a similar idea actually! A combat medic on a pcg battlefield - avoid shells, improvise bandages and disinfectants, etc. With some neat movement mechanics and probably some ideas cribbed from Trauma Center - I reckon it'd could be a fun game! But it still feels like it's *about* violence, even if the player isn't perpetrating it.

@mcccclean What about a post-futuree Roguelike where you have to navigate and survive inside a worldship? There are no overt points of aggression, but procedurally-generated farmland, empty living quarters, massive machinery zones and pipes and toxic hazards? Learn to manage the environment: hack doors, reroute pwoer, find tools and water and take care of your basic needs. Overcome extremes of temperature inside a quasi-artificial environment.

@Mainebot ahh... that's really awesome

@mcccclean Yeah I made myself sad thinking about it. Think all the parts of Dwarf Fortress and its world gen that fill the world up, but without the forgeone conclusion of violence and failure, in a really post-future setting.
