In what is not news to anyone who hasn't already decided "fuck the poors", universal basic income doesn't entice people to quit their jobs and actually /increases/ part-time employment rates: futurism.com/basic-income-part

@noelle Wait. Meeting people’s basic needs enables them to... WORK MORE?

It’s almost as if when people can eat and stuff there more inclined to be productive.

WHAT A CONCEPT?

@Are0h @noelle "Meeting people's basic needs enables them to work more" is a really good elevator pitch for UBI. I think I might have to adopt it.

@ChrisWere @Are0h @noelle One of the weirdest pro-UBI things I've heard about is libertarians being into it because it requires less bureaucracy and government oversight than existing welfare schemes.

@Caelyn @Are0h @noelle Yeah, I've noticed that too. In fact when I've campaigned for UBI publicly, I'm often surprised how attractive the policy is to people across the political spectrum. And I really like that.

For example, a number of conservatives I know like it because it's welfare that doesn't dis-incentivise work.

@ChrisWere @Caelyn @Are0h @noelle it's my understanding that, unfortunately, the conservatives / libertarians embracing UBI mostly want to eliminate all social services. The safety net services that government provides to the most vulnerable among us cannot be replaced with an income.
