Today walking down S. Francisco street a girl randomly offered me marijuana and it was AWKWARD.
But, with that street name, I should have seen that coming.
@masklayer ohhhh i get that feeling. try to pretend you're blind for everything but coffee and food, haha.
@brunodias hey, Bruno, de onde você é?
@SuzanEraslan so nice of you, thanks for the support! that is exactly how I feel: it is the best possible audience and a difficult one indeed. they only let us know the topic 24 hours before the lecture, so I am preparing it right now to present it tomorrow afternoon.
@SuzanEraslan thank you so much, suzan! yes, it is a struggle sometimes. I majored in linguistics and literature in portuguese language and it is also very hard for me to convince people that it is not an obsolete subject at all.
my audience will be three or four specialists in education/professors of literature – this lecture is the final phase of an examination process to teach in a public university center in brazil. I have 1 hour to talk about this topic and how I'd put it into practice.
@ampersand thank you :)
@SuzanEraslan thanks for commenting the subject :) I think you are right and it is an underrated kind of knowledge because it is a difficult one to measure or to perceive objectively. and the irony is that literature is important to decrease our dependence on (supposedly) purely objective views of the world
@ampersand thanks - I agree! I wonder what might be the difference with getting all of that from non-literary texts too, you know? especially that kind of social context knowledge. I guess literary ones have a much more enriching approach.
@SuzanEraslan true! and that can only be good in all aspects, right?
I have to give a lecture tomorrow on the importance of reading #literature for any professional. Do you guys have any thoughts on that?
@tiffsming cake karma, right? haha :heart_eyes:
@Phancypants best description of how I feel about it (or any social media ever)

@tiffsming thanks! the cake is so dry I would be a bad person to offer to share it, srsly.
My dinner today is half of the chocolate cake I bought for breakfast at the airport.
Wait, that's not what I'm supposed to share? Sorry. Only highlight of my Saturday.
"At the moment one comes into the presence of some- thing beautiful, it greets you. It lifts away from the neutral background as though coming forward to welcome you—as though the object were designed to fit your perception." (more Elaine Scarry)
a well-read man will at once begin to yawn with boredom when one speaks to him of a new “good book,” because he imagines a sort of composite of all the good books that he has read, whereas a good book is something special, something unforeseeable, and is made up not of the sum of all previous masterpieces but of something which the most thorough assimilation would not enable him to discover.
