"regarding your career, where do you see yourself in five years?" day-drunk in a corset and a puppy mask at a comic con queer creator's mixer, probably

I find unsettling the urges that tempt me towards endless explorations, when tasks self-assigned for better effectiveness lie dormant.

I like it that nobody listens to me here.

I went to a Knight Foundation event yesterday and took pictures with my reasonably nice camera of some of the folks whose Wikipedia photos were out of date. Please do this! Many of the photos that illustrate the encyclopedia are still just a positive externality of Flickr's popularity, and that doesn't have to be the case. mastodon.xyz/media/WW49GTQZyHK mastodon.xyz/media/y9B33Bs6T0c

The Joke: welcome to Mastodon, here's your fursuit and your copy of Das Kapital

Reality: welcome to Mastodon, here's your six alt fursonas, a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook, an eight-week course on the programming language of your choice, a tarot deck, some brand spanking new hormones, and a complex geometric sigil you should memorize that will turn into a neural counter-virus so that when the Singularity finally hits we can make sure The Straights don't claim it for themselves

Unpopular opinion: the fact that Mastodon needs some explaining for new users to understand it is actually great and should not be "fixed".

It's a free and easy subject to engage a conversation between strangers, and a good way to demonstrate Mastodon greatest power: shout into the void asking for help, there's a good chance someone will actually answer.

I haven't learned how to hibernate or embrace winter. I'm salt life, and sun seeker.

My name is Lorax, I'm a writer who spends too much time on the internet. I deal with dysthymia, PTSD and borderline personality, in addition to the hurdles placed on bodies undergoing gender transitions. I wrote for newspapers and magazines under a deadname, in English and Spanish. What I do now is: seek allies in community building, mostly offline, and practice screenwriting.

Will be the place to talk about sexual abuse in Single Points Of Failure ? Because Richard Stallman is a gross dude, and puts down women around him

I am a nerd interested in the Trans Pacific Partnership. I am a victim of capitalism, by and large, and an unproductive taxpayer. It seems wrong that money can zoom across borders while people die in boats and tent cities under plague conditions. I am still trying to write an essay that makes sense of the news of the matter, trans pacific partners... feed my information coffers.

My head feels today like it will explode. I imagine a sharp metal straw inserted under the skull would relieve pressure, but lets not think surgically. More of a push to migrate south. This house is climate-controlled and barometrically in conflict with an air core.

When I joined masto, I gravitated towards following creative peeps and noticed a thing that's pretty common to all of us: we feel guilty for promoting places that people can buy our work or otherwise support us financially. So I started the #CreativeToots hashtag for that very reason. Got an Etsy page? Online store? Patreon? Selling a piece of art? Throw that tag on it. Do it with unfettered abandon. Everyone else: Look at that tag for artists to support. Buy their stuff. Help them create. <3

The whole paragraph on Matt Taibbi being repentant but Matt Taibbi taking up so much space for 30 years to become a journalist with time enough to become repentant, is really good. "Men have not succeeded in spite of their noxious behavior or disregard for women; in many instances, theyโ€™ve succeeded because of it." thecut.com/2017/11/rebecca-tra

I'm grateful for the words I have, so grateful, and when I imagine a future, it comes inhabited by strange creatures who do not yet exist. And they need new words. I have not yet heard a way to say "I'm sorry for being right" that sounds good.

I can't convince myself that my voice is the one best suited for what I have to say. The writing recently has been searching for words to carry new meanings, but inventing dictionaries single-handedly risks misdefining.

I feel very drawn to moving into the British Isles today. How are the forests over there?

Humans undervalue that which makes them unique: their imagination. Conformity is a disease.

"Building Mastodon to be frozen"

I'm thinking about how we can build archiving and preservation tools right into Mastodon โ€” where the Fediverse presents some risk โ€” and what other opportunities that might unlock.
