The better part of a decade ago I did some etymology research on a name that was important in my social circle at the time. Anywhoo the "J" name used to start with a "Y"ish sound long ago.
Blah blah blah.
One of the side effects is that I now sometimes read "J" words with a "Y" sound. So… reading people's arguments over the pronunciation of "gif" vs "jif" holds some mild humor for me.
