I have no #hottakes but I will say that I stopped using Facebook on January 1 as a "break" and then actually clicked delete after the #CamAnal story broke, and I regret nothing. Feels so good! #DeleteFacebook #EmbraceMastodon
Would love a #mastodon pro to explain to me how to use the #federatedtimeline because I just don't get it. I open that thing and it's like super speedy scrolling and so much stuff is kinda not my thing like a bunch of young anime girls?
i just keep that timeline closed but surely it must be intended for some particular use....

I am going to unashamedly attend a performance of 3 of #Beethoven 's 16 quartet cycle this evening. It is at my workplace (UPenn) and being performed by what I understand is a very talented, well-regarded ensemble called the Daedalus Quartet.
Unashamedly because listening to classical music in a library on a University campus is an activity that is apparently anathema to many in this country. I don't care though. I need a reminder that there is beauty in art, and it's okay to like learning.

SO let's talk about the phrase:
"A diamond in the rough"
Today I and no fewer than FIVE of my co-workers realized we have been using that incorrectly FOREVER.
i always thought it meant like, hey here's this awesome thing in a place I didn't expect to. Like, that super good Ethiopian joint in West Philly sure is a diamond in the rough.
BUT NO. That's like, not what it means at all. We all loudly stood our ground, and then google set us straight.
It was devastating.
its like using "nuking it" to refer to microwaving stuff only existed in a brief period in the 90s when the cold war had its embers briefly smothered and everyone was high on some third way bullshit or w/e
does anyone still refer to microwaving something as "nuking" it cause i was watching this old ben folds five video and it occurred to me that in addition to not microwaving stuff that often in my 30s, I def never use that slang.

Oh good. Just now learning that the very bad reaction I had a couple months ago when we tried to add cymbalta to wellbutrin was serotonin syndrome and I absolutely should have gone to the ER.
Stigma, people. It would never have occurred to me to present at the ER due to taking a doctor recommended anti-depressant. And I work in Family Medicine / Behavioral Health!
That reflexive desire to keep it private could have been fatal. I am lucky.
Ughhhhhh. Couldn’t go to work for 2 days due to medication side effects and mental health. Going back this morning and can’t find my fucking earbuds. Very stressful.

As you settle into Mastodon, be sure to learn the lingo:
- "toot": a tweet
- "tusking": starting a pointless fight with another user
- "woolly": going viral, as in "wow, that toot really went woolly"
- "extinction event": when a whole instance goes down
reminder that giving your friends a link to a single mastodon instance has a greater chance of roping them in than throwing multiple choices at them
