@LeftCoast wait, i can mute entire instances?
@whiskeykitten inasmuch as the NE is wet, yep. not too bad though. compared to NM though, positively rainforest-like.
also i'm not a ferner and NM may as well be on the moon for all i know of it, so back atcha
@whiskeykitten oof. sounds like some srs work, don't forget the elbows!
Philadelphia here, so our indigenous lotion needs mostly invove our necks when we get whiplash from seeing budget allocations skyrocket for police departments while public schools are disaster zones

looks like this #dinosaur just read something RATHER SPICY in the society pages and cannot WAIT to tell their bestie Sharon about it all
@FoloGnorri very helpful, thank you!!!
@GinnyMcQueen @dumpling @Laurelai
okay so if I may ask - I'd love it if my federated timeline was like, a little bit slower, and was filled with stuff that is more relevant to my interest areas, e.g. books, dragons, queer stuff, comp sci stuff, etc so that I could use it to find cool new folks to follow. Also would love less like, weird (to me) quasi-porny anime stuff.
do I need to start my own instance to do that, ya think?
@offby1 hmm thanks for the advice - sounds like it's working as intended and I'm not missing something, and perhaps just need to adjust my expectations.
Would love a #mastodon pro to explain to me how to use the #federatedtimeline because I just don't get it. I open that thing and it's like super speedy scrolling and so much stuff is kinda not my thing like a bunch of young anime girls?
i just keep that timeline closed but surely it must be intended for some particular use....
@MissSnarkerson boooo! I hope the sun comes back soon.

I am going to unashamedly attend a performance of 3 of #Beethoven 's 16 quartet cycle this evening. It is at my workplace (UPenn) and being performed by what I understand is a very talented, well-regarded ensemble called the Daedalus Quartet.
Unashamedly because listening to classical music in a library on a University campus is an activity that is apparently anathema to many in this country. I don't care though. I need a reminder that there is beauty in art, and it's okay to like learning.

SO let's talk about the phrase:
"A diamond in the rough"
Today I and no fewer than FIVE of my co-workers realized we have been using that incorrectly FOREVER.
i always thought it meant like, hey here's this awesome thing in a place I didn't expect to. Like, that super good Ethiopian joint in West Philly sure is a diamond in the rough.
BUT NO. That's like, not what it means at all. We all loudly stood our ground, and then google set us straight.
It was devastating.
@sparcipx i fully support this motivation and in 44 days will be able to do the same /salute
