its like using "nuking it" to refer to microwaving stuff only existed in a brief period in the 90s when the cold war had its embers briefly smothered and everyone was high on some third way bullshit or w/e
does anyone still refer to microwaving something as "nuking" it cause i was watching this old ben folds five video and it occurred to me that in addition to not microwaving stuff that often in my 30s, I def never use that slang.

"To be calm becomes a kind of revolutionary act."
Oh good. Just now learning that the very bad reaction I had a couple months ago when we tried to add cymbalta to wellbutrin was serotonin syndrome and I absolutely should have gone to the ER.
Stigma, people. It would never have occurred to me to present at the ER due to taking a doctor recommended anti-depressant. And I work in Family Medicine / Behavioral Health!
That reflexive desire to keep it private could have been fatal. I am lucky.
Ughhhhhh. Couldn’t go to work for 2 days due to medication side effects and mental health. Going back this morning and can’t find my fucking earbuds. Very stressful.

As you settle into Mastodon, be sure to learn the lingo:
- "toot": a tweet
- "tusking": starting a pointless fight with another user
- "woolly": going viral, as in "wow, that toot really went woolly"
- "extinction event": when a whole instance goes down
reminder that giving your friends a link to a single mastodon instance has a greater chance of roping them in than throwing multiple choices at them

Discussed wealth inequality and social stratification from a functionalist and conflict theory perspective with 18 year olds in a sociology class this evening.
I tried, Karl. I was definitely rusty. But I tried.
Had a 3 hour screening for OCD this morning. One of the best treatment centers in the world. Accepted for treatment, now on a 6 week waiting list to start.
Super weird way to spend a Monday morning, tbh.
@salmon_cannon a good psychiatrist can be life changing. Also, mad props for taking that step!
@salmon_cannon always happy to chat! It took me over 8 months of slowly increasing the Wellbutrin dosage until I didn't have that up and down feeling anymore. Not that this is necessarily the answer for you, just another datapoint.
@salmon_cannon
I hear ya. The Wellbutrin has been absolutely life changing for the depression, but still dealing with focus / anxiety. Tried cymbalta (nope!), now Lexapro. The cocktail is pretty unpleasant so far, but hoping it will level out.
Please keep in mind that not everyone is in a privileged enough position to be able to delete Facebook or Twitter, that they need it for staying connected with their network etc.
However, you can still encourage them to start building a new network here, and you can help them by recommending them directly to an instance you think would fit them!
@pzmyers just to be clear - after the #CamAnal story broke, I downloaded my archive and clicked the #DeleteFacebook button. I'd love to hear about a viable alternative that isn't actively subverting democracy as much as the next person.
@pzmyers It's a good question, and one I don't know the answer to.
I don't think it will be possible to kill Facebook entirely unless they are found so guilty of criminal activity that shutting it down is part of the sentence.
There's too many people on it, locked-in to them as a vendor. The userbase will probably shrink and skew older with time, but nuking it from orbit seems unlikely.
Maybe replacing everyone that works at Facebook with people that are more ethical would be a start.
