i reboot the pi once and it begins throwing some error about grep over and over again and doesn't really do anything else

aaah! my power went out!
i could pick up a 16gb for cheap i'd imagine, but i have no way to get myself to the store.
i don't know why raspberry pi images are so hard to deal with, though now that i think of it i've always had problems with this micro sd. i'd try another one but i have important data on the only other card i have.
