twitter and tumblr both had this awful dynamic where the platform owners were looking out for engagement and edification of the status quo, and not the safety or comfort of its users. this gave us a lot of bad habits, like dogpiling or going through contorted logic to screw over marginalized people by painting them as abusers and getting them blacklisted for making a lukewarm take you disagreed with.
in general they're both a contest to make the most woke take or make the best performance in outrage. we need to not do that here.
