I briefly thought that theoretically infinite federate instances = no username or handle scarcity.
Turns out that every federated user has @federated.instance suffix to their username but users registered to mastodon.social don't.
Now I'm antsy for mastodon.social to reopen user registration.

I'm not entirely sure how the timelines work.
1. I'm pretty confident that my toots get automatically posted the Mastodon timeline of the instance I'm logged into (in this case octodon.social).
2. But it's not clear if they're also posted to the timeline of the federated mastodon.social instance. Hrm.
Is Matt Levine on here yet? I'm looking forward to Mastodon snark on Money Stuff.
