I'm not entirely sure how the timelines work.
1. I'm pretty confident that my toots get automatically posted the Mastodon timeline of the instance I'm logged into (in this case octodon.social).
2. But it's not clear if they're also posted to the timeline of the federated mastodon.social instance. Hrm.
@judges119 Ah, thanks for explaining that to me. The mechanic has interesting community moderation implications. I hope Mastodon grows enough for us to see those implications play out.

@labib they are as long as someone from mastodon.social follows someone on octodon.social.
They don't have to follow you in particular, but as long as there is one link between two instances they're counted as federated and the fed timeline has everything public from both. :)
