@klickreflex
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I would assume the feed is what it is, and you'd have to filter it at the next step, but I don't know enough about IFTTT to know if it can do that.

Maybe there's an IFTTT recipe to turn a feed into another feed with some kind of filter?

@klickreflex I believe you can get a feed of your toots, feed it into IFTTT, and have it tweet. (I saw a toot about it yesterday).

Not sure of the details though.

@jason Oh, hey, I believe I follow @Winneganfake on Tumblr, or did, anyway. They make cool boot wings, if I recall correctly.

And some more

This time, an art diary cover for a friend.

@Trashbang At least this was you have a choice. Consider Vine. No options, gone forever because it didn't make money.

At worst, if you're really unsure, you could run your own Mastodon instance.

There's currently no easy way to move accounts, but I believe it's on the wishlist.

we are happy there are more folks here but FYI newbies, Mastodon's community was founded by gays, trans folx, POC, furries. Not only do we take no BS from Nazis, we won't have you ruining this place for us.

INTRO TO FEDERATION:

1. "mastodon" is a piece of software that runs on a server. There's a lot of servers that run it & u can follow ppl on other servers.

2. When u follow someone from another server, your server receives their toots.

3. The federated TL is all public toots that the server receives, ie all of the toots from everyone that ppl on your server follow.

4. ERGO: if u want to see more toots in the fed TL, follow + get other ppl on your server to follow ppl from other servers!

Ok, so I've moved the people I follow to this account as well. I should probably unfollow them on the old account, I'm not following people twice.

Boosted toots (that will never not be funny) from other instances don't show up in local, right?

So an instance can choose not to federate from a particular instance? That's pretty cool.

@rateldajer Hmmm, actually, are you sure this is how it works? I had a look at the local timeline, but it's only posts from people from this instance.

@jason Providing functionality to say "these two accounts are functionally the same account" doesn't seem unreasonable (and seems to be one of the options being discussed here: github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/ ).

@jason I'm more interested in keeping my followers if I decide I like another instance better.

(Which sounds kinda conceited, but it's more if I move, I don't want to spam everyone "hey come follow me over at this new instance")

@rateldajer Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Interesting.

I haven't really looked at the local/public timelines, since I'm looking at this with a twitter-centric view, where I only see people I follow anyway.

THe instance just provides the account.

This does mean if the instance shuts down, you lose your account, but it looks like they're working on ways to move your followers to a new account on a new instance.

Oh, ok, I get it. I can set up an account on this instance, but follow people on other instances, and they show up in the "Home" timeline.

Which means instance don't really matter (if you don't mind the @name@instance format). They more like email providers.
