Can't believe I didn't think of two of my favorite softwares ever:
Ultrastar: open source Singstar, much better because you can make and add songs for free
StepMania: open source Dance Dance Revolution, also better for the same reason
This is a photo of a crashed kiosk advertising the menu and offers at a popular Norwegian pizza restaurant chain. It shows that the kiosk was running facial recognition and basic sentiment analysis on the people looking at it.
Based on the number of people who sent me this on Twitter, itโs clear that people care and are unhappy with corporate surveillance.
The worst bit? Compared to what Google and Facebook do daily and at scale, this is a toy.
"So youโve probably heard that youโre supposed to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day, right? Well, turns out, thatโs bullshit."

This new Japanese luxury train is quite something!
"Maintained by the East Japan Railway Company, the ten-car train features a lounge car, a dining car, observation cars front and rear, and six sleeping cars. The sleepers consists of both regular suites and three split-level "maisonettes." Total passenger capacity is just 34 people."

Listening to Here's The Thing with Alec Baldwin and he interviews Brian Reed about his podcast S-Town. Niiiice!
Listen to S-Town first though, spoilers!
Interesting Twitter thread on how a relatively common 'modern' web dev practice can lead to _dramaticallly_ worse performance https://twitter.com/notwaldorf/status/859636431974739968
Even more interesting is the resistance against changing said practice once it's demonstrated that it is objectively worse on multiple levels.
@koos On my windows 10 desktop computer, if I even bump the power button, it shuts down before I even get a chance to cancel it. On my windows 10 (same OS) laptop, pressing the power button quickly does literally nothing. Pressing and holding for 1 second brings up the "slide to shut down" screen. It's insanity.
Nice, Schwalbe packages their bicycle tyre tools with a strip of inner tube functioning as an elastic band!

There are no free open source software projects that:
-have a user base in the same magnitude as commercial competitors (or have no competition at all)
-are not predominantly used by programmers
-don't have a paid organization as the main contributor (like Mozilla)
We see to create a model of our surroundings. Seeing is seeing color. So color defines how we interpret our environment spatially. Applying color in a design thus gives meaning in a spatial sense, intended or not. This means that any visible digital design imitates real world objects in order to be perceptible at all.
#skeuomorphism won't let us go that easily!

I have the feeling I just wasted my time and that it's total pseudo-scientific bullshit. There are What Kind Of 80s Rockstar quizzes that show more insight.

For the past months I've worked part time, partly as a test. My employer confirmed yesterday that I can continue at 70%.
I have been more relaxed, happy, friendly and produce more per hour. I enjoy work more as well as my free time. Thanks to progressive income tax, my nett salary is reduced less than the time I work.
I bought a book. It's full of high quality info that you can't just find online. Somehow that feels anachronistic.
