Google now knows when its users go to the store and buy stuff

Google already analyzes usersโ€™ Web browsing, search history and geographic locations, using data from popular Google-owned apps like YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps and the Google Play store โ€ฆ

The new credit-card data enables the tech giant to connect these digital trails to real-world purchase records in a far more extensive way than was possible before.

When galaxies collide, collisions between stars are quite rare as the distance between stars is so large. octodon.social/media/Z80k1Z1ru

@ghost @gargron I'm not. Just saying with the current president the chance of the world ending in nuclear winter is higher than with other and alternative US presidents. And the reason is his madness. Any sane or less impulsive would avoid that scenario at all cost.

@ghost @gargron I don't think that it does matter what his illness is. The man is obviously mentally unstable. He decided to bomb Syria on a whim. I don't think there is anything wrong with not wanting such a person to be the only person formally in control of the US nuclear arsenal.

@Averly when I still had time, I used the Meetup app a lot, for its intended purpose: RSVPing and finding the offline meetups. I didn't even know there was an option for sending creepy messages

Actually Adam Silver is saying that. Coyer was just linking to it. But he agrees.

I should mention though that installing Ubuntu was fast and without problems. The most difficult part was shrinking my Windows partition. And of course I have unsolved video driver issues. Otherwise: wow!

My Linux security paradox:

Linux tutorials: do not enter a sudo command you do not understand.
Answer to any Linux question: enter this sudo command you do not understand.

The only display calibration tool I found for Linux that does not require a colorimeter device is like a decade old and has no installer. This means almost nobody using Ubuntu has a calibrated display.

Starting to feel like people who make Linux software hate design and designers and want a space for themselves.

Can't believe I didn't think of two of my favorite softwares ever:

Ultrastar: open source Singstar, much better because you can make and add songs for free
StepMania: open source Dance Dance Revolution, also better for the same reason

This is a photo of a crashed kiosk advertising the menu and offers at a popular Norwegian pizza restaurant chain. It shows that the kiosk was running facial recognition and basic sentiment analysis on the people looking at it.

Based on the number of people who sent me this on Twitter, itโ€™s clear that people care and are unhappy with corporate surveillance.

The worst bit? Compared to what Google and Facebook do daily and at scale, this is a toy.

@splitbrain you write like somebody who makes software, but then why would you have such contempt for users? This is clearly a person doing an effort to improve what's on the screenshot with the tools they were offered and understand.

Have you seen this:

This new Japanese luxury train is quite something!

"Maintained by the East Japan Railway Company, the ten-car train features a lounge car, a dining car, observation cars front and rear, and six sleeping cars. The sleepers consists of both regular suites and three split-level "maisonettes." Total passenger capacity is just 34 people."
