Would you prefer
a) A free (libre) software with ads
b) A free (no cost) but proprietary software with no ads
@kingu_platypus_gidora depends on b's real business model and how likely they are to be scamming you
a)
And I'll edit and recompile the code
Since my question was purely hypothetical I don't have answer to question about B's business model and such.
But I see that "it depend"
In my case I would use none of them and look out for a third option.
(or recompile A if possible)
because if I had written c) fuck both use another one, everybody would have answered that. 😜
@kingu_platypus_gidora it's a trick question. Libre software with ads, so that we can get the source and remove them.
if possible, yeah...
@kingu_platypus_gidora if you can't, is it really Libre?
If might be your own knowledge
(unmastered language) or messy code you don't want to play with...
@kingu_platypus_gidora that's true. Sometimes it's not worth it. However, if it's useful software and the ads are too annoying, it might be worth the effort.
I agree! 😃
This is B 😃
@hypolite oh.. yes...
You are using Opera?!?
@kingu_platypus_gidora a) and rip out the ads. I don’t think you are going to get ethical ads anyway. Best option would be wine/Crossover style.
@kingu_platypus_gidora How hostile are the ads?
