image discription for our visual impaired friends:
a person standing with a sign hanging around their neck with words written on:
'the system was never broken, it was build this way'
in the back of the image there's a cop car. the person holding the sign has a dark skin colour.
(note: skin colour is relevant here, since the police in the US has its origins as the slave patrol and has keept its racist practice until today)
@kingu_platypus_gidora systems of oppression don't happen accidentally, they're designed. Designed to be invisible to the majority.
Voter suppression, war on drugs etc have surface-level plausible deniability excuses. We too often accept these (tough on crime etc) as justification for maintaining the status quo. We see the losers of this system as unfortunate collateral of an imperfect system. The truth is the system is working perfectly as intended because we never look beneath the surface.
