@kingu_platypus_gidora I might check them out.
@kingu_platypus_gidora I remember reading somewhere about how this one guy would email them whenever they added as much as a single extra feature to the main search page, which kept them in line.
Pretty sure he gave up since then.
@polychrome @kingu_platypus_gidora The positive point is that Google Search Pages load always as fast as it was a blank page, even with a lot of information.
@Aznorth @kingu_platypus_gidora wouldn't know, I'm on DuckDuckGo now.
@kingu_platypus_gidora That was the good time.

A photograph of a colour printed page, possibly a magazine. The page is beige with a white border and red piping.
In upper frame there is a screenshot of the Google homepage from 1999, and there is blue bold sans serif font underneath it reading:
"Google (www.google.com) is a pure search engine — no weather, no news feed, no links to sponsors, no ads, no distractions, no portal litter. Nothing but a fast-loading search site. Reward them with a visit."
@kit ^w^ we did it
@kingu_platypus_gidora I remember those days. Even when Google first got into advertising they made a lot of headway by serving text only ads in a world littered with pop-ups, mouse chasers, flash "games" you always won where the "prize" was a form to harvest your email, etc. Interesting how things have changed now that they have power.
@lroop It is sad. I used to be a huge Google enthusiast... Not anymore...
@kingu_platypus_gidora what year is it?
@Dekken I dont know :(
@kingu_platypus_gidora says 99 on it!
@kingu_platypus_gidora What I want is a search engine that searches for what I type and doesn't try to guess what I might mean instead . Google used to be like that. DuckDuckGo used to be like that. Now even DuckDuckGo second-guesses me and it's practically always wrong.
@irina It is so annoying when it assume I made a typo and search for something else...
@kingu_platypus_gidora
Ouais en même c'était y'a 20 ans. Toutes entreprises évoluent. Apple fait faisait que des ordinateurs...maintenant ils font aussi des montres lol.
@kingu_platypus_gidora Facebook said something similar 10 years ago and look where it is now.
This sounds like a SuperPAC ad
@kingu_platypus_gidora ooh my wife had these in French when she was a teenager. I mean the actual French version of this guide. I took a pic a few weeks ago but I can't seem to find it.
@kingu_platypus_gidora How the mighty have fallen!
