The man was a preacher and a street performer. He was blind. We don't know much else about him or his life, because he was a poor black man born in the 1800s and even record keeping is racist and classist.

But, with his distinctive voice and unparalleled slide guitar, Johnson is a Force that can be heard all through the music that followed him.

If you get the chance, spend some time with these 30 tracks. There's some real good stuff there.

Between his recording of "Jesus Gonna Make up My Dying Bed" (recorded by Dylan and Zepplin as "In My Time of Dying") and "Dark was the night, cold was the ground" a wordless blues hymn included on the voyager Golden Record, and his other pioneering track, John left a mark on popular music and pop culture with his 30 tracks that has rarely been equaled by bodies of work of any size.

There's a lot to say here, and I might have to spread this out in to a couple of posts, but we'll start here.

Here are the 30 songs Blind Willie Johnson recorded:

Really good article in the Guardian on depression:

Reminds me of the similar discovery about drug abuse from rat park:

We need (amongst other things) purpose and agency in our lives, when we lack this we become unhappy, this may lead to depression and/or drug abuse.

Infoshop: **Is everything you think you know about depression wrong?**

"From these people, I learned the best scientific evidence about what really causes depression and anxiety. They taught me that it is not what we have been told it is up to now. I found there is evidence that seven specific factors in the way we are living toda…"

Thank you Heydon Pickering for removing remote loading of Google Fonts on The Paciello Group’s Hugo-based inclusive documentation builder, Cupper (thepaciellogroup.github.io/cup). As a developer, the easiest way to fight #SurveillanceCapitalism is to not let the people who trust you be tracked by companies like Google. e.g., do you use Google Analytics? Don’t. It’s the most prevalent tracker on the web & allows Google its panopticon-like vantage. Stop using it. Do your bit.

In light of the recent stuff about reciprocation, one possible campaign which could be started in 2018 would be something like "payback the content creators".

The silo companies obviously make massive profits out of the content created by users, but users typically get no financial remuneration for their labor. If a company like Facebook could be pressured into making some payouts then this would eat into their profits and hit Zuckerperson where it hurts.

On the other hand maybe this would be considered a smart move for the silos since it could lock users in even more effectively.
