‘Facebook, Google face first GDPR complaints over ‘forced consent’’
“Schrems argues that the companies are using a strategy of “forced consent” to continue processing the individuals’ personal data — when in fact the law requires that users be given a free choice unless a consent is strictly necessary for provision of the service.”

merry gdprmas folks
So many of my coworkers asked me why I was carrying around a towel today that I was starting to get discouraged.
But then one of them said "Hey, you sass that new frood that joined [development team]?" and now I feel better about life.
@gargron
It sounds like you had a shit day, that's ok, everyone has those every once in a while. It is totally ok to be bummed out about it.
As long as you keep reminding yourself that better days are coming around again too.
We humans are just sacks of meat, filled with hormones and other systems, that are easily disturbed. Sometimes I just feel bummed about everything for a few days for no apparent reason at all.
Guess what I'm trying to say is, please be kind to yourself.

99% invisible recently did a two-part podcast on a "city" that did this. TL;DR: it sounds really good on paper but had some unforeseen downsides.
There were more and bigger reasons for the failure however, that were unrelated to the street design. Poor external choices that created a lot of vacancies and drove a lot of drug users into the open public spaces. Really worth a listen!

This past week, GDPR (Garrett Did Privacy Revamping). Glad that's over and the new privacy policies are now all in place.
Thankfully, nothing was really complex.
Looking up the music of a local band to see if I want to go to their concert. Turns out that when you internet-search for "Hot Chicks" they are not on the first page...
Kinda embarrassed I only realised this once I saw the results.
A little disappointed they are four dudes but the music sounds nice enough, so I might actually go 😀
Tumblr tried to sneak in data collection under the radar. After a few taps, you can get a list of who they're sharing data with.
The list takes 19 screenshots to see all the names on my phone.
NINETEEN.
Apparently Jeff Bezos makes $28,000 (the median yearly salary of an Amazon employee) every 9 seconds.
He's on the way to becoming the world's first trillionaire.
The inequality is mind boggling. How do you actually, concretely, undo this kind of madness?
