PSA: if a user habitually boosts stuff you don't want to see, you can turn off boosts just for them without unfollowing them

view their profile in the regular masto UI and you'll see a "Hide boosts from X" in the hamburger menu

this can make the whole experience a lot less annoying, but it's not well-known!

"City of Anarchy": A high resolution schematic of Kowloon Walled City by Adolfo Arranz for SCMP

It uses information and #photography from "The Darkness City: Life in Kownloon Walled City" by Greg Girard and Ian Lambot as well as the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong

This location was the origin of many #Cyberpunk tropes

This is intended to overcome the problem of some RSS feeds only showing the last few posts? Otherwise I'm unsure what the use would be. (Disclaimer: I haven't used a feed reader in a while, I may be totally out of the loop)

I’ve decided to set a rejection goal for myself. 100 rejections this year for job or creative submissions.

I’m already at 4. Going to have to step up my game!

The beauty of Mastodon is not only that it is free and open but that it’s federated. You can fork it without losing access to the network or your social graph. There’s no reason a hundred forks couldn’t exist.

Also, when did forking become an insult? As far as I’m concerned, it’s the biggest compliment you can pay a project. And if you fork and stay federated, you’re actually helping to strengthen the fediverse!

What you can’t do is force people to build what you want out of entitlement.

Developers, do not embed Google’s products on your sites & compromise the privacy of your visitors.

#CleanUpTheWeb & strip your site of tracking devices by Google, Facebook, etc. to make the web safer. Yes, that includes Google Fonts loaded from Google’s servers.

This does not excuse the shit-storm, it is still unwarranted and undeserved.

But since it is also a certainty, when you are looking at serious growth, I hope you will find a way to cope with it.

Through software, through a human community manager or something else altogether. You will encounter this again, and you will need a better solution.

@gargron
I love what you created, Mastodon has become my main social media platform.

Just like you I would really like Mastodon to grow even bigger.

I just hope you realise that growth will inevitably lead to more drama. Imagine if you have a inconsequential update and 1% of your users like it and 1% hate it.

If the total amount of users grows so will the absolute number of vocal supporters/haters.

You will need a system to handle this inevitability.

Help me federate! If you see this toot, interact with it, either my boosting or replying. A simple "Hi!" will do a lot 👋
