If I understand the post correctly, they are using mastodon accounts more or less as command and control centers. To tell the malware what to do basically. Not to spread it.
Still good to know that this happens! Deleting accounts like these can frustrate or even stop the malware. And prevents Mastodon from getting a bad reputation.
But I don't think you have to be scared of getting infected with malware via mastodon yet.
