Yes, it's only for certain countries in the EU/Schweis, and they have some relaxed rules for Turkish and German nationals of a certain age.

If the political situation in Germany makes it looks like the dual nationality law allowance in the next ... 5 or 10 years that would be nice. I think that they can bring in more qualified immigrants if there is an allowance for dual even if you maintain the rules around language, knowledge of German culture, and so on.
From what I have read, many EU countries adopt this.

I guess it's a completely different situation with people looking to drop their original citizenships rather than get a new one.
I don't know enough about their situations (not being able to pay for colleges, etc). But yes, I have seen this floating around with people moving to other countries to avoid paying loans and debt.
it's sad to hear they feel that way.

In Australia, there is now a new law from last year where if you earn over a certain amount, you are required to a) declare it to the Australian Tax Office and b) pay the required amount for the loan. So Australians can't do this even if they wanted to, lol.
In addition there are also various tax related shifts for expats and property ownership.

Yes. Everything about Ireland is great. I love that country.
Plus the job market in Ireland is pretty good. I got 20+ calls from recruiters when I was looking for work and that was before I arrived there. I still have Irish recruiters emailing me!

The big downside is that the property and housing options there are not good at all, due to financial recession housing issues, 'cosmetic' issues (ie not ruining the skyline), overall lack of planning for the growth, etc.

@saper @hcs @kensanata I was born in Britain to Irish parents, currently live in the Czech Republic. Did not renew my British passport a couple of years back. Applied for and got an Irish one instead. Many in the same position. Among other things, I was born an EU citizen.

@hcs @kensanata I have been looking at Ireland recently. Problem is that it could be hit hard by Brexit. It could go either way, but Britain is a huge trading partner, and Brexit could also land them a clusterfuck of administrative detail work and diplomatic burdens that may eat into the political bandwidth they might put into the economic transition. I hope it lands well but...

Interesting thought and there is a lot of mixed feelings about Ireland. And a lot of it depends on which perspective you are looking at/looking from. I should look into this more, I do have some views but I think it's uninformed so I don't really want to share. I do have relatives that did not get a good deal post recession so yes, I would not want to be in a not-the-best situation in the near future, or make long term investments (incl personal investment) calls now.

On another note, it depends on how much risk one can tolerate as well.
