Amoroq client badly needs to let us manage instances

. @CobaltVelvet This is why this is my favourite instance.

@CobaltVelvet Do dot mentions send direct to the mentionee without posting to local or fed?

@gersande Apparently you can migrate by exporting who you follow as a .csv list and importing it into witches.town (apols if you already knew this)

Greetings. Female science policy writer here. Skeptical paranormalist. Fan of monsters. sharonahill.com

I've just read the instructions for setting up your own Mastodon instance, and now I know why I will never be able to set up my own Mastodon instance.

@CobaltVelvet I mean, if you want to. Not the boss of you etc.

So here's a thing social media is good for. I've just met @Idoubtit and discovered her sites doubtfulnews.com and spookygeology.com which are awesome resources for anyone interested in or involved with mysteries/hauntings/strange phenomena etc. Go check them out!

@Idoubtit I suspect this one maybe worth hanging around on. I think mastodon.social may crash out soon (but it may not) but these other instances are good. If nothing else, given that I'm writing about five different mystery things at the moment, this linking me to your sites has made the procrastination pay off!

@Idoubtit No idea how I've never come across your sites before, but they look awesome!

@maiyannah Do you mean the idea that Mastodon is a brand new thing and before this there was just Twitter and Facebook?

@dboisvert Setting up an instance would be awesome but I suspect requires more know how/time than I have (the time aspect being fluid because a lot of days I seem to do anything to stop myself from working!)

I guess part of the issue is that so many of us are new here and we're talking like we just arrived at the party. Being on Mastodon, discussing Mastodon is the equivalent of "wow, nice place, good weather for it, put your coats upstairs". The real test of the thing is when we all settle in and start talking about other stuff.

Still trying to figure out where to base myself. Within Mastodon or outside in GNU Social? I've just stumbled onto Octodon and it seems like you have a bunch of good people here. But what is the criteria one should apply in finding a place to settle? Does it even matter?
