Macros can be useful but I feel like we should ban certain people from touching them.
For example, imagine if someone were to use the C preprocessor to create an elaborate object orientation system for C, calling it GObject, and then create an entire graphics stack up to and including a desktop environment, called, say, GNOME.
I think that's the kind of person who should no longer be allowed to use the C preprocessor.
I think the most important lesson to learn from free software is that after people have enough money to put food on the table they're willing to put time into something with no monetary benefit

ill never trust the compiler. everyone always told me. trust the compiler!! i believed them!! i was young. inexperienced. until one day. 2014. i realised u can do zero-overhead while loops on a atmel. or maybe it was a pic. cant remember. anyway the compiler doesnt do it, you have to do it yourself!!! you have to type asm() in. with your hands. it doesnt do it for you!!!! and at that point im like, jeez, why am i even using a compiler. good for nuthin piece of garbage

yesterday i found out the reason theres this one extremely loud seagull on my street that makes a noise every morning at the same time, is because the old lady at number 43 feeds it, she stands outside her front door with a plate and feeds the seagull, same time every day. and then of course, the gull's friend, its annoying pal comes by and tries to steal the food, right out of its mouth!! so our loud boy makes his sound, doesnt he. to tell his friend the following: "screw of!!!!". and thats it
