GNOME seems to have taken the first part to heart, but ignored the second.

Alan Kay is most commonly recognized as the father of Smalltalk and OO (though he considers few modern languages truly OO) but he’s primarily a human-computer interaction researcher, and has pioneered many of the concepts we see in modern desktop environments

The hard thing with that is it is not easy to hackintosh or economically feasible for everyone to get a Mac. I think the guys point of view is that free software needs to make itself more intuitive for end users who want macOS level of simple without the costs associated with it.

I think the problem, at least where GNOME 3.x is concerned, is that the developers honestly think they ARE making the software more intuitive for end users who want macOS-level simplicity. Unfortunately, it's failing miserably.

I agree, but I think many of Apple's woes are self-inflicted. People have always derided Apple gear as overpriced and underpowered, but that meme is more true now than it has ever been.
