Hello Fediverse!
I'm trying to find a tool to manage my personal contacts. The idea is to have a VCard file containing names, emails & phone numbers. Sounds easy, but I only find Thunderbird & Evolution, and it's tedious (can't merge contacts).
Other issue, not the smallest : the import of the VCard I currently have in my Android doesn't work : many contacts don't appear after import or they appear with missing info (like their... name).
Any #help welcome!
@vanecx You can use DAVdroid for managing VCard files, and there is merge option. Also DAVdroid is used for backup of your contacts, you can set up the backup on your NextCloud server (I think there is more options for backup server). All these apps are available on F-Droid
@vanecx Simple contats app from f-droid, it will import your contacts, also you can filter contacts by accounts and you can select option to not show duplicates. Its open source also. You need app for android or linux? Simple contacts is for android.
@vanecx Oh well I can't help you there, don't know much about linux. But if import fails in all apps on your android doesn't it mean that Thunderbird or Evolution messes up something? I don't use any software to edit .vcf on my PC, they are synched to my PC though NextCloud among other things. But with NextCloud 13 on your computer you can import/export/edit .vcf files, don't know if this helps you. If you are interested here is link:

@johny Well, I don't know exactly who messes up, I just found out that in the vcf file, when I replace "email" by "EMAIL" or "n" (for name) by "N", the contacts are eventually imported. So I just need the "reorganizing part tool", if I can't find it, I'll do it in Thunderbird, not much choice left.
Thank you for the help though! Eventually I guess I'll end up using Nextcloud, but it's not in my skills yet, so it's not in a near future.
@vanecx I hope I was helpfull a bit, I had the similar problem when exporting .vcf from one app on one phone to second app on second phone, everything was messed up. I guess Thunderbird export is different from other apps export. They just define things differently.
@vanecx By the way, you can use Proton mail for import/export/edit of .vcf files if you have Proton mail account.
@vanecx Maybe this will finally solve your problem.
@johny I just tried Simple Contacts... and the imports failed, with the exact same issues actually (some contacts were actually imported, with phone numbers instead of their names)
@johny For Linux. Because my whole list of contacts is currently in Thunderbird or Evolution, and when I import it on my Android, most of the contacts don't even appear in the address book, therefore an Android app would not help me (it would also be super tedious to manage merging/deleting on a small screen ๐ )
