Today I'm appreciating the "unofficial DVD" vendor at the local horror convention who curated a selection of subtitled movies for a deaf customer who then found one she was really happy with. Because selling movies of questionable copyright status doesn't mean that you can't try to be accessible.
What are you appreciating today?
here, we commonly use short hand for cws!
here's some common ones:
"-" means negativity
"+" means positivity
"~" means a neutral level of negativity or positivity, or that the poster is unsure
"mh" means mental health!
"pda" means public display of affection
"birdsite" means twitter
that should be most of them, feel free to reply if you know any other ones!
Have you ever met someone who laughs by literally saying "ha ha ha ha?" Because I hadn't... before today.
Why have I never been to the Pop Conference at Mopop before? There's nowhere else I could've experienced the fantastic set of talks I just saw on Seal, Meshell Ndegeocello, Tracy Chapman and Soul II Soul. https://popconference2018.sched.com/event/Dqtk/reintroducing-the-hardline
Watching them back to back, the contrast was striking between the backward-looking Call Me By Your Name and the forward-looking Dirty Computer Emotion Picture. Looking forward to when it's the norm that queer characters are played by queer people. Go Janelle!

People seem a little confuse about responsibility to fight oppression.
If there is a system that oppresses and kills people for YOUR benefit, you are morally obligated to oppose it. Even if you yourself did not commit a crime, it is for YOU.
Yes, I'm talking to you, white people, men, cis people, heterosexual people, rich people. We ALL are *morally obligated* to tear apart a system that hurts other people for our benefit.

This is a good piece on why it's so hard to have reasoned debates online.
Been around for a few months... Time for an #introduction!
I'm Melissa (they/them)! Some of my projects are in my bio, but in general I am and do:
#gamedev & #podcasting
#gardening #succulents #cacti
#asexual / #grayace / #panromantic / #queer
#polyamory #relationshipanarchy
#writer #webdev #language
#socialjustice / #feminist / #intersectionalfeminism / more things I'm still learning about π€
Don't put too much emphasis on the order of those; if I could prioritize them, I'd sleep more. π
Can you imagine how much more effective communities would be if people actually just bucked the fuck up and said,
"What I said was antiblack and I shouldn't have said it. It hurt people and it was wrong. I'm sorry and thank you to the people who corrected me. I'll try harder next time."
wow
amazing
revolutionary
I don't want it to end, but I think that I'll be finishing Night in the Woods on this stream.
I also picked up the first two years of Check, Please! by @ngoziu at ECCC. It's the super sweet story of a queer college student and his journey joining the school's hockey team. http://checkpleasecomic.com/comic/01-01-01
Another of my favorite comic purchases from ECCC was As the Crow Flies by non-binary creator @melgillman
It's about a queer 13-year-old black teen girl at an all-white girls Christian summer hiking camp. There's also a trans major character. The art is all done with colored pencils and it's super beautiful. But you should just start reading to see that! http://www.melaniegillman.com/?p=96
