I have a notification pop up on my phone every day to remind me not to fall in love with a specific person. This isn’t the first time I’ve done that. It worked the first time.
@malte in the same way that I love everybody in my life. The reminder is to move me toward not wanting to date them. It wouldn’t work out or be good for me, despite how I feel.

You could also go the middle ground and ask "Excuse me, I find myself standing at the edge of the rather steep slope of falling in love with you, what would you make of this?" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
