My wife and I watched the #RogueOne: A #StarWars Story Blu-ray last night. Terrific story-telling. But, whoever thought that CGI Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia were a good idea are sadly mistaken. Exceptionally poor representations of the deceased actors that diminish the story. Such a pity. If you've seen the movie, do you agree?

@jangles I thought is was pretty good in both cases, though I was slightly more 🤔 about Leia than Tarkin. Her complexion was just a tick too porcelain, you know?
After the fact I found myself wanting to know how audience members would have reacted if they hadn't known the characters/actors.
Like, we know Peter Cushing is dead, and that's not him, so we automatically go into hypersensitive mode. Likewise we know that's not Carrie Fisher (RIP).

@emdeesee good points. After I saw the film at the cinema when it came out, I asked friends who I know hadn't seen the original film, either at all or for many years, what they thought. Everyone had negative comment about the CGI characters, ie, that they were so obviously unreal. My view on that massively reinforced when I saw the Blu-ray yesterday

@jangles That's interesting. I wouldn't have expected the reaction to be sure strong. While there were some quirks, I want out off​ by the virtual performers. Maybe my uncanny valley is narrower than some.
I haven't seen the Blu-ray version, but I did see R1 in the cinema twice.
