But does that work on every Mastodon instance? I'm sure I read somewhere that respecting CW isn't universal, depends on the instance.

@jangles Instances can of course decide not to respect anything. Whatever interface handles the messages coming over GNUSocial can be processed any which way. This does cause issues with perfect privacy, too.

@jangles mastodon is only one of the software applications used to connect to the federation, the other software works differently. Behaviour of things like CW should be consistent across instances that use mastodon (as long as the instance updates to new versions when they come out), but may not be the same when using other software.
@jangles CWs are unique to Mastodon, but NSFW tagging is part of GNUSocial (I think?)
