Amazed out how many people responded to my "do not announce your intent to commit crimes" toot with variations of "even better, don't commit crimes at all!"

Look: not all laws are moral. The law can, AND FREQUENTLY HAS BEEN, used to oppress people. People who helped slaves escape to freedom were breaking the law. People who sheltered Jews and gays and Roma from Nazi genocide were breaking the law. Sometimes, there is nothing a moral person can do BUT break the law.

I'm not saying ALL laws are immoral. But if you cannot imagine ANY law ever being worth breaking, you either need to read some history, or you're comfortable living with oppression because you're confident it will only ever oppress other people.

And if it's the latter, I'm not particularly interested in your opinion.

Agh, now I'm re-reading this and noticing the typos. This is what I get for tooting from the line at Dunkin Donuts

@jalefkowit always thinking about how Thomas Aquinas said if a law is unjust it isn't a law at all

sorry government

@jalefkowit Okay but what about laws that you only ⭐think are immoral but have real consequences for everyone around you? Like people who ignore mask laws and walk into a crowded shopping center anyways because muh morality. Meanwhile millions have died whilst a dangerous respiratory pathogen is going around because people with their false sense of morality are going around disobeying laws.

@ShucksOystersUntilSunrise You're asking me to define a universal morality, which I have to admit is a problem that has defeated much smarter people than I.

For me personally, I can't control what other people think, so I focus on what I think is moral and try to convince others that I'm right. It's not perfect, but until I find a modern-day Socrates it's the best I can do.

people with privileges seldom think of themselves as being considered a criminal by the law, it's always "someone else"... also people should study a bit about how the state, judicial system and all that came to be
i dislike laws completely, and i'm aware of the fact that life has been arranged so we can't live without laws, so it's sad

@jalefkowit no, no, don't you get it? nobody is doing any crimes, no one should do any crimes at all

no crimes here
none whatsoever

i have not seen a single person do a promote any illegal thing under the laws of any state around here and neither have you

@carcinopithecus @jalefkowit

haha there is so much shitposting here though! just a lot of wacky hijinx people talking about what they might try in minecraft like you do

I prefer minetest but it's all in good, purely virtual fun!

@jalefkowit what if a faction of the government breaks the law by killing whistleblowers then uses the law to set the killers free?
