Anyone know of any alternative global and cyber news accounts? I always used twitter for news mainly and don't know if there are any media's on here yet.
@infini Yeah, to be fair I'm not following it myself, just noticed it was there. I'm currently torn between being fascinated by current politics and too depressed to look.
@howfar I'm quarantining self care (places like this, metafilter, etc) from that side of things which I have to look at during work hours anyway
@howfar Yes. If I've understood you correctly, you're saying that we're only taking in as much as we need to in order to get our work done or otherwise contribute to value creation in our communities. Anything further than that is damaging.
Almost like "peak information" isn't it? At some point our immune system cuts in
@howfar :) Since late January, I just added the various words for orangehead into the "mute this" in twitter notifications. Its one of washing one's hands off remote stuff from another continent that doesn't affect daily life over here.
@infini I think there is a cognitive bias towards overestimating our control over events on national and global scales. It's easy to focus lots of energy on distant abstractions rather than where we make a substantial positive difference.
National and global events aren't unimportant, obviously, but I reckon we make the biggest difference to them via the specific issues where we have direct influence. So gathering lots of information that isn't very relevant to that is probably inefficient.
