Follow

should not even be necessary. No bots should ever follow or even interact with anyone unless explicitly requested by that person. I block any that do so.

@impiaaa
But what's wrong with a bot following you? Why does it bother you?

@wolf480pl
There have been multiple occurrences of mass-follow bots being used for data harvesting and/or creating a searchable toot database against the wishes of the content creators. Many masto users would prefer not to be indexed by Google etc
@impiaaa

@impiaaa unfortunately, the definition of bot is not very precise. If I set up an account that is operated by humans but automatically toots things from an RSS feed, I indicate that it is a bot. However, every follow action will come from a human. So what to do in this case? Leave away the not flag or do not automatically toot RSS, Twitter, etc.?
