Man I'm sitting here writing a script to generate monthly invoices and I get an email from `local_company[1]` saying they're expediting their ridiculously drawn-out interview process and want to talk to me in person next week. I'm tempted to tell them not to bother, since `local_company[0]` already said "we'll get you a formal offer soon" and I'm going to turn them down in favor of contracting.

It's really weird to have these problems. When did I get good at this? Last job hunt took 6 months.

Welp, talked with a prospective client and they seem happy to have me, so I guess I start this contracting thing the beginning of June.

It's gonna be strange. Exciting though.

the thing about grade inflation is that as adjunct faculty I don't feel free to give any grade. international students' visas depend on their GPA, and I'm not about to put someone's visa status at risk in this climate. seniors and graduate students have jobs lined up and failure to receive credit for a class could put their career trajectory at risk, which I'm also not about to do in this climate.

@gcupc Thanks for the heads up, I wouldn't have bothered doing the research otherwise.

@gcupc Aha, an apparently-authorative source on the whole thing, and a link to the paper draft: efail.de/

Seems like a little of column a, a little of column b.

"God," I prayed, "make me a good writer."
"Create, review, try again," God said. "You have countless papers to write on. No one creates a perfect thing at first try."
"Not even you?"
"I have countless planets to create on."
"Wait, we're not the first?"
"Create, review, try again."

So there's this quest in Warframe where you have to follow a musical beacon around as it moves around the level. It's actually really cool.

It also glows and has a very distinctive trail, so you can see it as well. I'm not sure that making the quest possible for deaf people was really the *intention*, but it probably does that very well also. Good for them anyway.

The one consolation is that if I've spent two years listening to this audio file without being able to understand what in the world it's saying, then probably nobody else can either.

Oh snap.

...so when I started maintaining ggez, one of the test sound clips in the resources directory used for examples was this very strange, somewhat muffled voice saying *something strangely incomprehensible*.

I was just enlightened as to its source, and.... uh, maybe I should change it?

The Nike missile battery had never been fired in anger.

Suddenly the telex came. The Russian ICBMs were inbound.

Sirens wailed. Cables sparked. Rocket engines burst into fire and then a rising vapor trail.

In the stratosphere, there was a hollow blue -ping- as the Metaphysics Package did its highly implausible work.

A million burning sneakers rained down on the grateful city.

Actually, anyone who's going to and wants to hang out, let me know. I'm hype.

@musicmatze Are you going to be at Rustfest Paris? :D

If you want, you can today get a glimpse of the AI-driven future of software development. It's called "Why The Fuck Is The Query Planner Ignoring My Index"

The year is 3114

Peace and love rule the galaxy with an iron fist of tyrrany but nobody minds because it's all really pretty cool

Starships plow the gravity waves of deep space at relativistic speeds, taking humanity's AI children throughout the universe

And the personality reconstruction of Theodore T'so announces that, at long last, btrfs is production ready.

(As long as you don't touch RAID5, of course. There are some very nasty data corruption bugs there that will be fixed any day now.)
