@Azure I've used cairo for vector graphic drawing, it's a little tedious but all in all was perfectly nice for the simple stuff I was doing. If it has any huge problems for more sophisticated stuff I haven't hit them.

Events, I dunno.

@ninjawedding Haven't seen that one! Can you toss me a reference?

oh nooooooooo, someone wants ggez to render right-to-left text correctly. Arabic, no less!

Heck. I'm going to have to learn how to do this Right, aren't I.

@sydneyfalk I don't like this...

...but I kinda like this.

New rule: there has to be viable alternate economic model where billions of people are lifted out of extreme poverty and starvation is almost eradicated before you advocate destroying capitalism.

Yes, income inequality is a terrible now, but that's failing tax policy, not failing capitalism. Yes, greed causes harm, but that's failing regulation, not failing capitalism. If you're angry at the system like I am, hold your politicians accountable for the failing of government.

In other news, I respect wacky computer architectures, but what the heck do PIC have to offer that can't be done by something a little less bonkers? 6502 springs to mind.

@aldersprig For reference I have a 2014 Crosstrek. It's basically the Impreza hatchback with an extra 3 inches of unnecessary ground clearance.

I had a Mazda 6 before and occasionally regret giving it up, though on the whole the Crosstrek is a fine car, and I hear it's gotten better lately. But if I knew for sure that a Mazda MX-3 would handle the hill snowy winters of my area as well I'd probably swap for one without regret.

@aldersprig If you really want a srs 4WD vehicle that isn't a truck or Jeep they're the only practical option. Reasonably robust and comfy and a steep hill with 4 inches of snow with ice underneath is not a problem as long as you don't need to go fast.

That said, I recently drove a friend's Toyota of the same year (2014) and was like "wow, this is nice. And quiet. And the engine is nice. And it has a manual transmission that doesn't feel like a cheese grater to the gonads."

Man I'm sitting here writing a script to generate monthly invoices and I get an email from `local_company[1]` saying they're expediting their ridiculously drawn-out interview process and want to talk to me in person next week. I'm tempted to tell them not to bother, since `local_company[0]` already said "we'll get you a formal offer soon" and I'm going to turn them down in favor of contracting.

It's really weird to have these problems. When did I get good at this? Last job hunt took 6 months.

@cypnk idk. Base 2 and base 12 are both perfectly reasonable and useful when measuring objects into halves and thirds, but they really don't need to be intermixed.

Then you get into metalwork where things tend to be measured in 1000ths of an inch (so, base 10) and life goes from inconvenient to painful...

Welp, talked with a prospective client and they seem happy to have me, so I guess I start this contracting thing the beginning of June.

It's gonna be strange. Exciting though.

Wow. Amsterdam just opened its first plastic-free supermarket isle

Apparently, all those bags are made of a bio-degradable material

@cypnk Yeah it's annoying as heck when all your construction materials are in feet and inches.

That feeling when you develop a minor crush on someone from their Github comments...

@Ferrovore

That sounds super relaxing.

How DO you fold fitted sheets anyway?
