@wogan Yep, that's the next frontier for me- setting up an instance. I do remember disaspora, but I never used it.... and yes, the idea of having my own instance that can join the federation is an attractive feature, IMHO.
@iamjasonclark I'm gonna put together a step-by-step this weekend, I think. Right now I'm running off a 1GB RAM, $10/month VM :)

@iamjasonclark The concept's been around for a while, going as far back as disapora* - but this is the first setup I've come across that's relatively easy to spin up, looks good, and has the features you expect from a social network.
I'm running a single-user instance myself - love the idea of having this degree of control over my experience !
