Also for the people of octodon.social (lot of new folks!) remember that our mommy is @CobaltVelvet and that you can help her making octodon not suck by being her patron on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/CobaltVelvet
Today, I am teaching my wife how #Linux DNS works, and how to configure the zone files and various other .conf files. She's new to Linux, but willing to learn!
INTRO TO FEDERATION:
1. "mastodon" is a piece of software that runs on a server. There's a lot of servers that run it & u can follow ppl on other servers.
2. When u follow someone from another server, your server receives their toots.
3. The federated TL is all public toots that the server receives, ie all of the toots from everyone that ppl on your server follow.
4. ERGO: if u want to see more toots in the fed TL, follow + get other ppl on your server to follow ppl from other servers!

Avec une référence photo à côté, comme ça je pratique aussi les angles de vue plus funky :p
I took a sweet nap on the couch, but then my Wife mercilessly took a picture and posted it on Facebook. That nap was supposed to be a secret!
Every once in a while I get reminded of the relief junior devs feel when they come to me or other more experienced people and we don't know the answer to a problem, and how valuable that is.
I think a lot of tech (me included) struggles with not wanting to be wrong or seem stupid, but it sets an unreachable expectation on ourselves and our junior colleagues.
Junior devs: if everything is confusing, you're not stupid
Senior devs: let people see you mess up
Good morning everyone and #Welcome to the fediverse here on Mastodon (or elsewhere).
In the federated timeline to your right you can see messages from the connected instances (ie other servers), but only from people who are already followed from this server. It's a neat "friend of a friend" system.
You can set up your own instance or find a better suiting one at http://instances.mastodon.xyz
Have a nice day!

I'm definitely seeing a lot of French toots here, if I keep using Mastodon for a while it might be a way to learn and practice French. I have a trilingual coworker who speaks French so I might be running out of excuses to try learning :P
Hey everyone, I'm a pretty normal guy all around. I'm not a journalist or blogger, but I do like to sing and do theater as well as various other fatherly duties. I hope I can contribute to some good conversation with people! #introduction
