@ldoreille @Divan Been on D* since the beginning. Guess i'm just used to the UI, so it never really bothered me.
Was also able to add someone from quitter.se easily. This is how federation should work.
Good article for newbies about mastodon and decentralized social media: http://www.zdnet.com/article/is-mastodon-the-new-social-media-star-or-imploding-black-hole/
Remote following someone on another instance seems to work very well here.
Pacers 'bout to blow it! #nba
@ldoreille can't really explain it. Maybe timing? It's surprising how many people jumped on the bandwagon here. But time will tell if people stay on mastodon.
@0tacoon no problem. it's definitely a little confusing.
@0tacoon i'm on the octodon.social instance.
@0tacoon you're on mastodon.social. It's whatever url you put in your web browser to sign in.
Really digging #simplenote: https://simplenote.com/. Been using the native linux app for awhile now.
I'm seeing a lot of people complaining that instance xyz of the federated web doesn't allow free speech. Do they not understand how federation works?
@simonv3 yup! federation may be the ultimate form of free speech.
@patcat maybe if mastodon could implement groups where one could join or view certain people in a group you created on a certain topic.
@gannet not sure I understand why having multiple instances is better. why not just follow people with similar interests. It would be cool if groups were added instead.
@patcat why would you need an instance for this? Just follow people you know who are interested in your topic of choice.
@Yukari Entering the profile in the url is not a workaround, it's the only way to follow someone on a different instance. It's really the best way.
@Yukari The biggest problem with these decentralized social media apps is the ability to move your name, contacts, and history to other instances. It's been a problem for a long time and hasn't really been addressed. Unfortunately.
But most mastodon instances should really be the same.
@Yukari It shouldn't work like that. That defeats the purpose. How are you trying to add someone on another instance?
