@blackle According to one of my lecturer's when I was at uni it originally did on Janet the UKs academic network.

I'm going to have a look at the API's for mastadon and see how hard it's to add support for reading feeds with my django based rss reader i'm working on.

@blackle it would be good also for accounts to show a sha256 hash of the signup email address. Then on servers you trustworthy instances you could have more confidence that a user is the same for blocking purposes. You could also potentially cryptographically sign it and use it for trust purposes too.
