It always pains me when I see fellow software developers call other projects "shit."
Especially when the "shit" represents man-decades of hard work, like a browser or an OS.
C'mon. If you don't know how hard this stuff is, then you're a n00b.
Sure, we can always find fault and call everything shit, but is that kind of venting making anything better?
Maybe it makes you feel better, but every time we indulge in this kind of thing we're making tech a more hostile place to work and/or play.
oh well will experiment more tomorrow
Though salmon pushes for my experimental instance are currently going to the profile page, weird
I knew trying to build my own blogging platform which federates with mastodon was a bad idea, stuck trying to get following working.
Argh so I can't figure out why mastodon is rejecting my atom feed for the authorise follow request(and can't find the code responsible in the mastodon source).
bring new meaning to the term trivial program by rewriting /bin/false and yes work did insist I put our boiler plate copyright notice on it.
Spending my lunch hour looking at imagemagicks plasma gradients functions.

Some success got part way to hacking enough code to get mastadon to follow an account onmy micro blogging engine. Ive also managed to get the remote follow button on mastadon working.
tfw you check in and push a script that pushes changes in a repository with the script that pushes changes in a repository
Just got an error 406 not acceptable and imagined Lemongrab shouting it at me.
So turns out the python rss feedparser gives you something completely incoherent if you point an ostatus feed at it. Oh well.
Yay so triceratops (my blogging engine) has had partial success reading the atom feed from octodon (the format is very different from classic atom/rss feeds so stuff is missing/in the wrong place)
Humble beginnings for my profile page. I'm mostly building this now so I have somewhere to put more info about me that I can't fit on my mastadon profile.

How to get a private 🔒 toot to your followers on a different instance without mentioning them: if you have an account on that instance, mention it! That way, it federates and is readable by your followers there!
Someone posted a picture of liquorice allsorts and it reminded me of an episode of Dr Who witch had a monster which looked like bertie bassett.

READ IT.
INTERNALISE IT.
REALISE HOW BADLY REMOVING FOLLOWER COUNTS COULD MAKE HARASSMENT IF PPL DON'T KNOW HOW FAR THEIR TOOTS WILL BE PROJECTED WHEN THEY WRITE THEM
Me: open-source is the best
Also me: I will die before I let anyone look at this shitty code
The last company I worked for had "The <company name> family" motivational posters in the meeting rooms. I was sure I would eventually get fired when they caught me singing the adams family theme song with <company name> instead of adams.
